From South Africa – 2006.10.16

Our missionary friends, Dave and Tarrah Hildreth, have sent another update from South Africa. Here it is:

October 16, 2006:

Our visitors from the US flew out on Thursday evening and the two weeks flew by! We had so much fun and got to see a lot of South Africa with them. I am sending a couple of photos to share with you all.

Today is our first day back to work. On Saturday, we went to see Alisa. She had been hospitalized again for diarrhea while we were in Durban with our family. She has lost 3 pounds and now is only 17 pounds. She looks terrible but was so happy to see us! She even wanted “daddy”. She came home with us for the weekend and we took her to the zoo.

Dave and Alisa at the zoo:

She has never been to a zoo so the awe in her eyes was amazing. She had a fun weekend. She ate very well and the diarrhea seems to be somewhat under control again. When we turned the corner to take her back to Hamanskraal, she started crying and saying no. When we got in the drive, she told me “leave Selah”. If we have to leave someone, she would rather us leave Selah! It was funny. We told her we will get her again next weekend. Please keep Alisa in prayer.

I took our visitors with me to the hospital on Wednesday to visit the kids and went back on Saturday evening. It will be nice to start going on a schedule again. Dave and I have also picked up a new youth group on Thursdays.

Our teenager camp went wonderful!

South African teenagers:

The camp is set up to hold 50 campers max; we had 76. We were overloaded but the teens were wonderful. Please pray that the things learned in the camp will stay with the kids.

We have had several people who have said they will help us get Bibles to the teens and got our first Bibles bought this weekend. We will give them out this week. The Bibles will be such a blessing! We will keep you all updated and thank you all for your support and prayers.

Tarrah, Dave- my prayers with you and with Alisa! God bless you so much for your wonderful efforts in Jesus’ name.
    Bill, thanks for sharing.

  2. Dee Andrews says:

    Greetings from south Mississippi.

How old is Alisa? It’s hard to make her out in the photo, but she sounds like she’s “spunky” as we used to say! Glad she got to go to the zoo. What a wonderful treat for her.

    God bless you all.

  3. Bill says:

Diana: Glad you stopped by and that you are remembering Tarrah and her family, along with Alisa, in your prayers. We join you in praying for all of Asia, as well.

Dee: This may be hard for you to believe by looking at Alisa’s photograph, but she is 7 years old. Unbelievable, isn’t it?

Thanks to all who are remembering these precious souls in prayer.

Hi Dave, Tarrah and children (all of them),
We’re so thrilled to happen onto your web-site today. Chloe & I have been “dreaming” of doing what you’re doing, especially since Africans are her people. What can we do to help? How can we help get Bibles to the teens?
How is the building going there? It’s so exciting to think of the impact your family is having and the hope of Jesus that must be so well received and embraced.
Chloe would love to correspond with Jansen if that’s possible.
    With the love of Jesus,
    Sharon, John and Chloe
